Ventura Panhellenic Awards Scholarships

Ventura Area Panhellenic announced winners of its annual scholarship program. The $1,000 awards were given to: Nancy Epping of Ventura, a graduate of Ventura High School. Epping is a senior at Cal State Northridge majoring in physical therapy.

Annette Hammer of Camarillo, who attended Ventura College. Hammer is a junior at USC majoring in art education.

Ventura Area Panhellenic is made up of college alumnae who were members of national sororities. The scholarships are awarded to Ventura County women who are enrolled at a four-year college or university in California. Selection is based on scholastic achievement, community involvement, personal references and financial need.

Soroptimists Present Citizenship Award

* Soroptimist International of the Conejo awarded Ganesh Shankar, a graduating senior at Westlake High School, its Youth Citizenship Award. Ganesh was honored for his academic accomplishments and community service, which includes serving as chairman for the Thousand Oaks Youth Commission and March of Dimes Chain Reaction Youth Council.

Somis Man Honored for Volunteer Work

* Daniel Villanueva of Somis received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Para Los Ninos, a nonprofit family support center in Los Angeles. Villanueva, chairman of the investment firm Bastion Capital Corp. and Villanueva Companies, was recognized for his “outstanding service to the community.” Villanueva has been a volunteer and board member of such nonprofit groups as the American Red Cross, Children’s Bureau of Southern California Foundation and National Hispanic Education Fund.
