Vigilantes’ Brief Stay at .500 Ends With Loss to Tri-City

The Vigilantes, who on Friday reached .500 for the first time this season, fell below .500 after losing to Tri-City, 5-2, in a Western League baseball game Saturday in Pasco, Wash.

The Posse’s pitching limited the Vigilantes (13-14) to five hits.

Levi Lacey (1-0) went five innings for Tri-City, giving up four hits and both runs.

Ryan Harris (2 1/3 innings), Jeff Thomas (two-thirds of an inning) and Ned Darley (one inning) combined to give up one hit over the final four innings. Darley earned his fifth save by working a perfect ninth inning.

Last week’s pitcher of the week, the Vigilantes’ Kirk Irvine, gave up four runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings to take the loss. He is 2-3.

Left-fielder Corey Paul and catcher Eric Brooks each had two hits to lead the Posse. Brooks played for the Vigilantes last season.

Vigilante designated hitter Paul Gagliano hit a two-run homer in the fourth to tie the score, 2-2. It was his sixth homer.

But Tri-City scored runs in the fifth inning on Shawn Scott’s run-scoring single, in the sixth inning on three two-out singles, and in eighth inning when Paul walked with the bases loaded.

Wally Ritchie will start for the Vigilantes today in the final game of the series. Nick St. George will start for the Posse.
