Groups Get Funds to Employ Seniors

The Ventura County Board of Supervisors has awarded $49,161 to eight nonprofit groups to provide part-time job training in community service employment to low-income residents ages 55 or older.

The groups will receive money from the federal Older Americans Act. Each organization will contract with the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging for one year to recruit, hire and train participants.

For fiscal year 1998-99, the following organizations will receive federal funds:

St. John’s Regional Medical Center, $6,000 for a senior health connection clerk; Moorpark Senior Center, $6,839 for a clerical aide; Ventura County Library Services Agency, $6,336 for a clerical trainee; and Pleasant Valley Recreation and Park District, $6,240 for a clerical aide.

Others include SCORE Ventura Chapter, $5,860 for a clerk typist; Thousand Oaks Library, $6,459 for a clerical assistant; Commission on Human Concerns, $6,012 for a nutrition support clerk; and Ventura Youth Employment Service, $5,595 for a human resource trainee.
