Leal Scores Twice in Zodiac Victory

Gustavo Leal scored twice as the Zodiac beat host Albuquerque, 3-2, in A-League soccer Thursday.

Leal scored in the 50th minute to give the Zodiac (10-6) a 2-1 lead and Eddie Soto scored 10 minutes later to put the Zodiac up, 3-1. Soto has a team-high eight goals.

The Zodiac played the final 51 minutes a player down because defender Shawn Saunders was ejected for a tackling foul.

Angela Rho of Fullerton shot a 68 to win the girls’ title at the Nabisco Mission Hills Desert Junior golf tournament.

Her three-day total of 211 was six strokes better than second-place Candie Kung of Fountain Valley, who shot a final-round 71.

In the boys’ division, Jimmy Dunn of Coto De Caza finished tied for third at 213 after a 73. He was four strokes back of winner David Oh of Cerritos, who shot 68.

Steve Runge of Mission Viejo shot 65 and is four strokes off the lead at the California State Open in Indio. The leader is Todd Demsey of Scottsdale, Ariz., at 199. Young Nam of Fullerton shot 71 at Indian Wells Resort and is five strokes back at 204.
