Jewish Family Service Moves to Larger Location

Jewish Family Service of Ventura County has expanded and moved to new headquarters at 1915 E. Main St. in Ventura.

Executive Director Susan Hardy said she wants people to understand “that the Jewish Family Service charity isn’t just for Jews. It’s for everyone, like Catholic Charities is.”

During its weekday office hours, the service will offer counseling by professional therapists for adults, families, couples and children on a sliding fee basis. Peer senior counseling is also available.

“We make sure these services are not out of reach for anyone,” Hardy said.

The service also holds free legal clinics. On Monday nights, one may see an attorney at no charge, particularly on matters of family law or personal finance law, such as divorce and custody issues, bankruptcy and mediation between neighbors.

“We do all of that at no charge,” Hardy said. “It’s a useful place to come and find out if you actually need an attorney, without paying to find out.”

Hardy also invited the public to an open house for the new office July 8 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Office hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. For information, call 641-6565.
