Re “Alarcon Asks for Unity Without Disavowing Mailer,” June 23.

Well, well, its pretty easy for [Richard] Alarcon to call for unity after the election results are in. Sadly, it’s a call that comes to late. It is unfortunate that Alarcon did not have the decency to disavow Sen. Richard Polanco’s mailer and call for unity prior to the election. Isn’t it ironic that Polanco and the Latino Caucus, who have for years been decrying, justifiably, I might add, the race-baiting tactics of Republicans and their various strategies (i.e. Propositions 187, 209 and 227), have succumbed to the same divisive hunger for electoral “success.”

The Latino Caucus should be careful in the future because it risks alienating and losing sympathetic supporters like myself. It’s a sad day for this Democrat to admit that he will be voting for Alarcon’s Republican opponent come November.

“Alarcon Victory Is Yet Another Win for Polanco,” June 22.

Now that the truth about Alarcon’s sellout to the dirty win-at-any-cost Eastside political machine is finally in the news, I bet there’s more than 31 people out there who would like to change their vote. The councilman’s call for “unity” is ironic since he’s done more to set back race relations in the Valley than the Rodney King incident.
