Storm Victims Are Eligible for FEMA Aid

Share

Orange County storm victims may apply for federal assistance to cover at least part of their financial losses from the recent downpours.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency can provide limited funds for property damage, temporary rental payments, medical assistance, transportation costs, unemployment and a variety of other areas.

Even if a person has private insurance, “you should apply anyway,” said Roger Allen, a FEMA spokesman. “FEMA will not pay for things that are covered by insurance, so we’ll pick up the stuff that’s not.”

Since last week’s deluge, 667 Orange County residents have applied for FEMA aid, officials said.

Orange is among 31 counties statewide that qualify for the assistance. About 20,000 people across California have applied since a state of disaster was declared Feb. 9 in some counties.
