Social Services Agency Workers Honored
Three Orange County Social Services Agency workers were honored Tuesday by the Board of Supervisors in Santa Ana for outstanding work during the centennial year of the social work profession.
Laura Solares was honored for her work with the agency’s emergency response unit, which makes the initial visit to homes where child abuse is suspected. Recently, Solares was forced to grab a baby and carry the child to safety after an angry mother grabbed a knife and attacked a police officer at the scene.
Robert Munoz was recognized for years of dedicated work with extremely troubled clients, and for going out of his way to do things, such as attending a school event for a child who had no other guests.
Raquel Amezcua was recognized for her work with substance-abusing pregnant women. She developed a curriculum for female inmates at James A. Musick Branch Jail that has led to many being reunited with their children.
The awards commemorate Social Work Centennial Month, which honors the profession in the United States.
