Panel May Seek Ideas for Freeway Wall Art

Share

Ventura officials may ask artists to submit ideas for artwork on a Ventura Freeway retaining wall, railroad trestle and overpass near California Street.

With some backers pushing for a whale mural at the site, Ventura’s Art in Public Places advisory committee is setting up a process to consider that and other ideas.

The committee at a 4 p.m. meeting today will decide whether to recommend a call to artists for the California Street offramp project. It will also review proposed art projects for development during 1999.

The public is invited and may address the committee on issues relating to public art. An update on the status of active projects is also on the agenda.

The meeting will be held in Ventura City Hall’s Conference Room A, 501 Poli St. For more information, call Alice Atkinson at 658-4760.
