City to Seek Funds for More Bike Lanes

Share

After hearing a plea from a resident to consider the future of Simi Valley’s meager network of bicycle lanes, City Council members agreed to study whether more lanes could be built.

Councilwoman Sandi Webb at Monday’s council meeting suggested that the council look at the issue after hearing a complaint that the city should do more to encourage cycling as an alternative means of traveling the city’s congested streets.

“I don’t know why we got rid of them and I’d like to know why,” Webb said.

The city currently has one off-street bicycle path running for several miles on the east part of town.

The council adopted a resolution authorizing the city to apply for about $30,000 from the Southern California Assn. of Governments to extend the bike way.

The council will discuss the issue in the next several months.
