Zodiac to Play Galaxy in Exhibition

The Zodiac will meet the Galaxy in an exhibition soccer game at 7:30 p.m. March 14 at Santa Ana Stadium.

Last year’s game was played in front of 4,359 and ended in a 1-1 tie. The Zodiac, the A-League affiliate of the Major League Soccer Galaxy, has moved its home games for the 1998 season to UC Irvine from Santa Ana.

Jerry Gregg has been named women’s volleyball coach at Fullerton College, the school announced, pending approval from the North Orange County Community College Board of Trustees, which meets Tuesday.

Gregg, 59, led Cypress High to Empire League titles from 1995-97 and also has coached at Magnolia High.

He replaces co-coaches Mollie Kavanagh and David Han, who served one season as replacements for Nancy Welliver, who led Fullerton to the state tournament twice in three seasons. The Hornets were 3-18 last year.

Mater Dei’s Nicole Edelbrock has orally committed to Loyola Marymount to play softball next year, according to Monarch Coach Doug Myers.

This will be Edelbrock’s second season on Mater Dei’s varsity. A second baseman, she helped lead the team to the South Coast league title and the Southern Section Division I semifinals last year.
