Group Critical of Mobile Home Survey
A group of residents is criticizing a recent survey about city mobile home parks, contending the study failed to adequately represent opinions about rising rents.
The survey, presented this week to the City Council, is aimed at giving the Mobile Home Advisory Committee direction on meeting the needs of about 5,000 mobile home residents.
“The survey didn’t reach the older population and reflect their views,” said Steve Gullage, president of the Huntington Beach Mobilehome Owners Assn.
The survey showed the majority of residents are elderly and enjoy the safety of their parks. But Gullage said the survey failed to reflect many residents’ opposition to annual rent increases.
The council noted the survey included 15 of the city’s 17 mobile home parks, and questioned if that affected results.
“In my experience, their inclusion could change the numbers by a few percentage points,” said Gary Lawrence, of Santa Ana-based Lawrence Research, which conducted the survey. He agreed to survey the omitted parks.
