City to Move Disaster Center, Buy Supplies
Fearing an earthquake or some other disaster, city officials have agreed to buy emergency food supplies and relocate their emergency center in the coming months.
The city’s Disaster Council recently discovered that emergency food and water supplies had become outdated, City Manager Dan Keen told City Council members.
The new supplies would last five days and feed 100 employees, three times a day.
Officials also recommended moving the city’s Emergency Response Center from City Council chambers to the Police Department. The chambers are too far from radio equipment in the Police Department, and a person would have to run between the buildings to relay information, Keen said.
The changes will cost about $21,000.
