Is Show Offensive or Nothing Profane?

We have been deluged with three articles by Howard Rosenberg within the last six months attacking the Catholic League for its efforts at stemming prejudicial treatment in the media of Catholics, most recently in his March 4 column (“A Tale of Two Priests”).

Under the guise of “fair programming,” he defends shows that blatantly ridicule tenants of the Catholic faith. It should be apparent to all that he must have a personal agenda against this particular religion.

Would it be “fair programming” to allow shows that attack our Jewish or Muslim brothers and sisters? As a Catholic, I would be offended.

Because I am a Roman Catholic, I thought I would give “Nothing Sacred” a try to discover for myself what the seeming controversy was about.

I fail to understand how any serious Catholic who is living in today’s world could find fault with the characters or the issues raised in the plots. The issues, however painful, are genuine ones that confront the church today. To pretend otherwise is to deny reality.

To those people or sponsors who were put off by the protest of certain Catholics, I say: Take another look.

That is, if it ever appears again. I have been waiting patiently for its promised resurrection on Saturday night.
