Hasek’s Perfection Ended by Islanders and Linden

Trevor Linden doesn’t have any secrets to beating Dominik Hasek, but this much is certain: three of his last four shots against him have been goals.

Linden scored twice for the New York Islanders, who broke Hasek’s two-game shutout streak with a 4-2 victory over the Sabres on Friday night at Buffalo.

“I don’t know what all the fuss is about,” Linden said jokingly.

Much attention the last two weeks has been on Hasek. After leading the Czech Republic to the Olympic gold medal, he recorded successive shutouts earlier in the week against Washington and the New York Rangers.

On Friday, Hasek looked like an average goaltender. He gave up four goals on only 22 shots.

“A loss had to come some time,” he said.

Carolina 5, Phoenix 4--Jeff O’Neill’s second goal of the game, 2:24 into overtime, lifted the Hurricanes at Phoenix.

Carolina goaltender Kirk McLean stopped 46 shots.

Notes

New Jersey center Doug Gilmour will have arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and could be out for up to two weeks, a team spokesman said.
