A memorial service for Claudia Flint, a home economics teacher at Thurston Middle School, will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in the school’s amphitheater.

Flint, 53, was hit by a car Friday. She died Saturday at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo.

On Monday, students left flowers and cards in front of her classroom at Thurston. School officials said teachers at the school have been meeting with grief counselors.

“Claudia could connect with the kids in such a way. Her door was always open to them,” said Ron Lamotte, the school’s principal.

Residents who knew her also left flowers and other mementos at Glenneyre Street and Forest Avenue in downtown Laguna Beach, where the accident occurred.

Police said Flint was struck by a 1969 Jeep driven by Allan Knoess, 38, of Laguna Beach. The accident is still under investigation, officers said, and no charges have been filed.

Flint, who lived in Laguna Beach, became a substitute teacher at Thurston in 1983 and began teaching full-time at the school in 1988.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth, and two daughters, Nicole and Alisa.
