Toshiba America Shift

Toshiba America Information Systems Inc. said Tuesday it will start building its desktop computers for the U.S. corporate market in its Orange County facilities.

The announcement marks the company’s latest move to consolidate its manufacturing duties in the United States, officials said. Since 1987, the firm--a subsidiary of Toshiba Corp.--has used its Irvine facilities to build its line of laptops for its North America and Latin American markets.

Now, Toshiba plans to use the campus to build its Equium PC line, a year-old brand of machines aimed at small- to medium-sized businesses.
