Alonzo Mourning elbowed Michael Jordan in the head, elbowed Scottie Pippen in the chest and spent most of the night barking at Dennis Rodman.

He did everything he could to intimidate the Chicago Bulls but failed.

The two-time defending NBA champions didn’t back down and led most of the way as they defeated the Miami Heat, 106-91, Tuesday night at Chicago.

“It doesn’t matter what ‘Zo does. Miami just doesn’t have the quality people to knock us off,” Rodman said. “I told him he’s a 17-million-dollar punk.”

Jordan doesn’t try to hide his disdain for Mourning. “As you see, there’s not much love,” said Jordan, who had 37 points. “I think a lot of it has to do with the way they approach the game.”

Chicago led, 69-61, in the third quarter before going on a 12-2 run that made it an 18-point game and Miami never got closer than 13 points.

Washington 93, Milwaukee 77--Chris Webber scored 24 points and Rod Strickland had 17 points, a game-high 11 rebounds and 10 assists as the Wizards rolled at Milwaukee.

The Wizards, who ended a three-game road losing streak, took a 36-17 lead early in the second quarter and coasted the rest of the way.

Milwaukee played without leading scorer Glenn Robinson, put on the injured list because of a bad knee. Ray Allen led the Bucks with 15 points.

Houston 97, Dallas 91--Clyde Drexler scored 24 points and three players returned from one-game suspensions to lift the Rockets at Houston.

Hakeem Olajuwon, Kevin Willis and Mario Elie returned after missing Monday’s game against Utah, penalized for their roles in a fight Saturday against Phoenix.

Olajuwon got 13 points, eight rebounds and four stitches over his right eye after colliding with Cedric Ceballos. Michael Finley had 25 points for Dallas.

New York 85, Orlando 78--Charlie Ward reached double figures in points and assists for a second consecutive game, leading the Knicks at New York.

Ward had 10 points and 10 assists as the Knicks completed a sweep of the four-game season series and snapped a three-game losing streak.

Nick Anderson scored 25 for the Magic, who had a three-game winning streak halted.

Phoenix 100, Denver 76--Former Nugget Antonio McDyess scored 18 points and Jason Kidd had 17 at Denver as the Suns handed the Nuggets their 16th consecutive loss.

The Suns toyed with the NBA’s worst team until early in the third quarter, when a 9-0 run fueled by Kidd and McDyess gave Phoenix a 59-45 lead. Denver got no closer than 12 points the rest of that period.
