Pepperdine on Empty in 12-2 Loss to Fullerton

Pepperdine’s pitching went south Wednesday night, taking the Waves’ seven-game winning streak with it in a 12-2 nonconference baseball loss to Cal State Fullerton at Fullerton.

Steve Schenewerk (2-3) yielded a three-run home run to Chris Beck in the first inning, and Richard Sundstrom allowed eight runs on 10 hits in the second through fifth innings for Pepperdine (12-10-1).

Beck drove in five runs for the Titans (15-6), who have won five consecutive games and nine of 10.

Reed Johnson and Greg Jacobs each drove in two runs with four hits for Fullerton, with Johnson scoring three times and Jacobs scoring twice.

The Waves blew scoring opportunities with an inning-ending double play in the first inning a triple play in the second.

Josh Oder had three hits, including a double, and scored once for Pepperdine.

In other baseball games:

Azusa Pacific 13, The Master’s 8--Aaron Penberthy, Preston Sprinkle and Ryan Pollard each had two hits for the Mustangs in a loss at The Master’s.

Ty Sager added a double and three runs batted in for Master’s (12-5).

MEN’S TENNIS

Ventura 8, Santa Barbara 1--Ilian Iankov defeated Pat Lobb, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 1 singles to help the Pirates win a Western State Conference match at Ventura.

Stefan Pongratz of Ventura (5-3, 3-1) beat Dave Sonnesson at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-1, and teamed with Benny Andersson for a 7-5, 7-6, (7-2) doubles victory.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Pierce d. Irvine Valley, 15-9, 15-8, 13-15, 15-11--Lucas Wisniakowski had 13 kills and Brandon Kimball added 53 assists for the Brahmas (8-0) at Pierce.
