Troy Tops Orange on Muther’s No-Hitter

Steve Muther pitched a no-hitter to lead Troy past Orange, 11-0, in a North Orange County tournament consolation game Friday at Troy.

Muther (1-1) faced 17 batters, struck out five and walked none. Brant Elliott was three for four with three RBIs and a stolen base for the Warriors (2-3).

In other North Orange County tournament games:

El Modena 10, Bellflower 3--Ben Arteaga was three for four with three RBIs and Kurt Angier had two doubles and two RBIs for El Modena (3-2). Bellflower fell to 1-4.

Palos Verdes Peninsula 9, Rancho Alamitos 4--Visiting Peninsula (3-2) took a 6-2 lead after four innings. Tony Serna homered in the first and fifth innings and had four RBI for Rancho Alamitos (2-3).

Trabuco Hills 9, Valencia 5--Brian Murphy’s lead-off home run in the fifth tied the score for Trabuco Hills (4-1). Valencia (3-2) took a 5-0 lead after the second inning. Murphy was two for four in the fifth-place game.

Valencia Valencia 8, Santa Ana Valley 7--Ricky Zeller’s single with no outs in the seventh drove in the winning run for host Valencia (3-2). Santa Ana’s Danny Montoya was two for three, including a homer in the third inning. Santa Ana Valley (2-3) scored three runs in the top of the seventh to tie the score.

Whittier Christian 8, Riverside Notre Dame 4--Whittier Christian scored seven runs in the fourth inning. Tony Garcia had two hits, two RBI and a home run. Jon Stoa got his first win for host Whittier Christian (2-3).

In the Chino Hills Don Lugo/Ayala baseball tournament:

La Habra 11, Chino Hills Ayala 4 (6, darkness)--Dave Cosato was three for three with a home run and three RBIs for La Habra (2-1) in the pool-play game. Cosato is eight for 10 on the season with two home runs.

In nonleague baseball:

Capistrano Valley Christian 9, Riverside Sherman Indian 1--Jamie Tellier (2-0) pitched a complete game and gave up five hits for visiting Capistrano Valley Christian (4-0). Dustin Smith went two for four, including a triple, and had two RBI. Sherman Indian (0-3) scored in the sixth.
