Gensia Posts $22-Million 4th-Quarter Loss

Pharmaceutical company Gensia Sicor Inc. reported a net loss of $22 million, or 29 cents a share, for the fourth quarter, which included special charges of $11.5 million associated with the divestiture of Gensia Automedics in December. For the 1996 fourth quarter, the net loss was $12.6 million, or 33 cents a share. Revenue climbed to $44.6 million from $16.4 million. The fourth-quarter results include the operations of Rakepoll Holding B.V. and its operating unit, which were acquired early last year. For the year, the company reported a net loss of $82.7 million, or $1.15 a share, compared with a net loss of $51.8 million, or $1.41 a share, for the previous year. Included in last year’s loss was a $3.2-million charge to relocate corporate offices from San Diego to Irvine. Revenue rose to $149.7 million from $58.3 million.
