The Florida Panthers Sunday had another one of those days they’ve become all too accustomed to at Miami.

This time, it was Eric Daze of the Chicago Blackhawks who applied the crushing blows, scoring four goals to lead the Blackhawks to an 8-4 victory, sending the Panthers to their franchise-worst ninth consecutive defeat.

Daze had two goals in a six-goal first period by Chicago, the most goals allowed in a period in Florida’s five-year history.

Buffalo 3, Pittsburgh 0--Goaltender Dominik Hasek stopped 22 shots at Buffalo for his 10th shutout and the Sabres scored all their goals in the third period.

Michael Peca accounted for two of the goals and assisted on the third.

Carolina 4, Edmonton 1--Sami Kapanen, the Hurricanes’ top offensive threat, was told by Coach Paul Maurice before this game at Greensboro, N.C., to get more aggressive. Kapanen responded with his second career hat trick.

That pushed his team-leading goal total to 24 to help Carolina end its seven-game winless streak at home.
