Notes

In the last few years, the Irvine boys’ team has been overshadowed by the girls. This year, however, with the help of a strong class of freshmen, the Vaqueros are ranked first in the preseason poll and may have a shot at beating Mission Viejo in the Division I finals. . . . Mission Viejo will be looking to win its 20th Division I championship. . . . What’s up with Mission Viejo? Why do the Diablos continue to stage their invitational the same day as the Foothill Games? Many coaches say it would be nice to see all of the county’s best at the older of the two events, the Foothill Games.
