Parking Restrictions

* Re “Merchants Protest Parking Curbs Aimed at Hells Angels,” March 12.

Let me ask the persons who came up with the narrow-minded idea to restrict or discriminate against these people: What were you thinking? Is it not your main concern to make sure this week of festivities goes as smoothly as possible? Why is it that you immediately draw the proverbial line in the sand? Why would you want to start any type of problem?

When you first became aware of this assembly coming to Ventura, did you do any research on other cities that put on this type of event? Did you contact the Chamber of Commerce in Daytona, Fla., or Sturgis, S.D., or contact any establishments in those cities to see if they financially benefited from the attendance and the outside revenue?

In today’s market, the people who can afford to ride a Harley-Davidson:

* Must hold down a legitimate, well-paying job.

* Do not want any type of problem with the law.

I would be more concerned with the legal ramifications from your actions. You may want to ask George Christie how many of his club members are attorneys. I would suggest that you remove the signs in question and open your arms and parking spaces and allow these people their constitutional right to assembly.

Mr. Christie, good luck to you, and as one Ventura County citizen, I apologize.
