Health Fair Helps Ease Fears of Young Patients

They decorated beds and wheelchairs for a parade and played doctor while their pediatricians acted as patients, and today they’ll take a crack at making finger casts and working in a mock operating room during a children’s fair .

During the week, Harbor-UCLA Medical Center has held a series of events for children as part of the hospital’s annual Children and Healthcare Week, which seeks to make youngsters more comfortable with the idea of hospitalization. Hospital officials said they hope that by the end of the fair they will have taken the mystery and fear out of going to the doctor.

The fair is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center at 1000 W. Carson St. Torrance.
