Man Killed in Elevator Shaft at Store
A worker at a Hollywood home improvement store was crushed to death Saturday in a freight elevator while looking for a set of keys, authorities said.
The man, whose identity was withheld, was crushed in the elevator shaft at the Home Depot store in the 5600 block of West Sunset Boulevard, said city firefighter Rich Warford. The accident occurred shortly after 8:30 p.m.
“There’s a set of weights that act as a counterbalance and it was the weights that actually pinned the individual up against a wall,” he said.
Inspectors from the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration and police detectives were on hand to assist in the investigation.
