School Board Chief to Report on City Talks

Share

Kathryn A. Turner, the president of the Laguna Beach Unified School District board, will report today on negotiations with city officials to increase revenue to the schools.

The talks stem from a December meeting, when members of the City Council urged school trustees to deny a $6.6- million offer from the Irvine Co. to enroll students from a development planned along Newport Coast.

Having done that, school trustees are now looking to City Hall to consider paying the maintenance costs of shared facilities, including the municipal pool and school athletic fields.

Turner will discuss the matter at tonight’s school board meeting, set for 7:30 in the school administration office, 550 Blumont St.

Before the public meeting, the board will meet behind closed doors with a representative of Leadership Associates, a recruiting firm hired to search for a new superintendent.
