Mondesi Has Good Day, Neagle Doesn’t

Associated Press

Raul Mondesi had three doubles and drove in four runs as the Dodgers became the first team to score off Denny Neagle this spring, beating the Atlanta Braves, 8-4, in Kissimmee, Fla.

John Smoltz made his second start for Atlanta since undergoing elbow surgery in the off-season. After pitching one perfect inning last Thursday, he worked two innings against the Dodgers and allowed one run and two hits.

But Neagle, who had a 3-0 record in 14 scoreless innings this spring, was tagged after taking over for Smoltz in the third. He gave up eight hits, seven runs and three walks in four innings. Neagle led the NL with 20 wins last season.
