The Scene: Elton John and the Elton John AIDS Foundation along with InStyle magazine decided to do a little goodwill hunting of their own by throwing Oscar night’s only benefit bash, raising an estimated $200,000 to $300,000 for the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
Venue: This year, Sir Elton moved the venue from Maple Drive to Spago on party-clogged Canon Drive. “Every year, it’s been more money, more people,” he explained. “I think last year we had so much trouble with the fire marshals that it was a kind of a blessing in a way that Spago came to us and said they’d like to do it.”
Who Was There: John, Fran Drescher, Teri Hatcher and Joely Fisher and David Charve all made it to dinner. Later arrivals included Jay Leno, Sharon Stone, Michael Douglas, Paula Cole, Pam Grier, Faye Dunaway, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver, Atom Egoyan, Jennifer Tilly and Jeremy Irons.
