Apartment Complex Is Setting for ‘Tallest’ Art Exhibit

Large banners have been draped from four towers at the Park Labrea apartment complex to kick off the area’s annual arts celebration.

The colorful 16-by-25-foot banners form the second annual “Tallest Art Exhibit in Los Angeles” and serve to promote “A Walk in the Park for Art,” an April 19 event that will raise money for L.A.’s BEST, an after-school activities program.

Banners were designed by local artists, one a 10-year-old girl taking art classes at the nearby Los Angeles County Museum of Art, said Nadine Steele, activities director at Park Labrea.

The designs of artists Perli Pelzig, Debora Gillman, Naomi Yamaguchi and Aria Woods, 10, were selected by the Park Labrea Arts Council, Steele said.

In mid-April, their banners will be joined by 20 smaller hand-painted ones that will hang from light poles throughout Park Labrea for about six months.
