Vice President at State Convention

Share

What’s with you guys? Can’t you think about anything but Clinton’s “presidential scandal” (“Gore Rallies Troops at Party Convention, March 22)? I was a delegate at the California Democratic Convention and, believe me, no one was talking about the “presidential scandal” because we had far more important and relevant issues to be preoccupied with, like education, health care, good jobs, higher wages, discrimination, the environment and fielding the best candidates.

While the Republicans fret about how to court the Latino vote, the Democratic Party is quietly and steadily becoming more unified under outstanding Latino leadership statewide. Al Gore drew sustained ovations because he inspired us with an astounding, sincere speech, not because he merely averted attention from the media’s obsessive preoccupation with allegations about our president’s sex life. Get a life!

Gore and Barbara Boxer are left-wing liberals. How dare they attempt to portray themselves as moderates now?

We remember that Gore and Boxer were totally opposed to the idea of welfare and immigration reform. We remember that Gore and Boxer supported the idea of racial and ethnic quotas in our state university system, at a time when the public wanted a colorblind admissions policy based on merit. We saw how Gore and Boxer tried to undermine Prop. 209 and Prop. 187, even though these initiatives were passed by a majority of voters. And we see that Gore and Boxer want to increase federal spending on new programs.
