Free, full-time care will be offered for 96 preschoolers at three Capistrano Unified School District elementary schools under an expanded state program.

Funded by the California Department of Education, the program is expanding to help children who may be at risk of failing at school.

This will increase Capistrano’s budget for the preschool program from $681,514 to $827,458.

Currently, the district provides care for 273 of these children on a three-hour, half-day basis at six schools.

Beginning next month, a third of these children--at Las Palmas, R.H. Dana and Crown Valley elementary schools--will receive care from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., allowing their parents to work, attend school or receive job training.
