It’s late April, the Dodgers are hovering around .500. Their anemic offense has scored fewer than three runs in nine of their first 22 games. But wait, this is April 1997.

In April 1998, the Dodgers hovered around .500. Their anemic offense scored fewer than three runs in 10 of their first 25 games.

Not a coincidence, considering that the Dodgers felt comfortable sticking with their roster this off-season. As the Padres, who boldly improved their team over the winter, run away with the division, I’ll speak for Dodger fans by saying that we’re not so comfortable with this roster.
