U.S. Cup Water Polo Coming to Orange County

The U.S. National water polo team will host teams from six countries in the U.S. Cup at Newport Beach tournament June 16-21 at Corona del Mar High.

The round-robin tournament includes teams from Yugoslavia, Canada, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Australia and Brazil. Game times are from 5 to 9 p.m. during the week, noon to 6 p.m. on weekends. No games will be played Thursday, June 18.

Tickets for preliminary games are $8 for adults and $4 for students. Championship game tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for students. For more information, call (949) 644-9171.

Horse racing and boxing fans will get a doubleheader of sorts as boxing returns to Los Alamitos Race Course every third Saturday of the month, from May through August.

The “Rumble at the Races” events are scheduled for May 16, June 20, July 18 and Aug. 15. Racing begins at 6:30 p.m., and the first of six four-round boxing matches begins at 7.

The ring is set up on the apron in front of the grandstands, about 60 feet from the finish line.

General admission is $3. Ringside seats are available for $8 and a variety of seating/dining packages are available.

The Pacific Offshore Championship Series returns to Dana Point Harbor today with the parade of boats, which starts at 12:30 p.m. The race begins at 1.

Open, Modified, Pro Outboard and Super V boats will race 72 miles--nine laps--on the course off Dana Point and extending south about four miles.

Offshore B, Offshore A, Stock, Factory I and Factory II boats and all production classes will go seven laps, covering 56 miles.
