Ethnic studies professors Angelina Veyna and Irene Soriano of Santa Ana College have been chosen to be part of this summer’s National Endowment for the Humanities’ institute.
The two will participate in a six-week session beginning June 21. They will spend three weeks in Mexico City and the rest of the time in New Mexico. There, they will study the encounters of the Spanish and indigenous cultures in Mexico in the 16th and 17th centuries.
College officials said the institute will function as a stimulus for individual study and research that will be used as a seed for course and curriculum development at Santa Ana.
