School Is Closed After Fight Ignites Racial Tensions
A fight between two students Monday escalated into a schoolwide shouting match laced with racial epithets and led authorities to shut down Inglewood High School.
The fight began about 12:45 p.m., police Lt. Hampton Cantrell said. Police were called when the fight sparked yelling between black and Latino students, he said.
Two students were detained but not arrested, Cantrell said. No one was hurt.
Principal Edgar Gill said the high school will not be in session today because of a long-ago scheduled training session for teachers, not because of Monday’s events.
About 2,200 students attend Inglewood High.
