CREIGHTON SOFTBALL

* County connection: Marie Gieron of Foothill High.

* Worth noting: The sophomore designated player from Santa Ana was recently named Missouri Valley Conference player of the week, helping Creighton to a 5-3 record. In eight games, she batted .619 with two doubles, one triple, three home runs and seven runs batted in. She has seven homers this season, tying the school’s single-season record set in 1978.

USC WOMEN’S WATER POLO

* County connections: Jennie Adams of Foothill, Kendra Browne of Mater Dei, Jacqueline Favreau of Rosary, Lana Kraus of Irvine, Miranda Lim of Foothill and Bernice Orwig of Savanna and Cypress College.

* Worth noting: USC lost seven of its first nine games but finished 19-15 and qualified for the nationals with a sixth-place finish at the Western Regional. Orwig, the goalkeeper, had 282 saves in 34 games, including a high of 15 in a 6-2 victory over UC Davis in the regional semifinals. Kraus has scored 10 goals and Lim nine, Adams two and Favreau one. Browne is Orwig’s backup.
