First-Class Way to Donate Food

Share

Mmm-mmm-good. That’s what Campbell Soup Co. and the National Assn. of Letter Carriers hope their “Stamp Out Hunger!” drive on Saturday will do.

More than 100,000 letter carriers in 10,000 cities nationwide will collect donated food and deliver it to local food banks. Householders need only leave a bag of nonperishable food items (not to include food in glass bottles or jars) next to their mailboxes before their regular mail delivery.

The “Stamp Out Hunger!” drive was started by the letter carriers group in 1992 and has been given a boost by Campbell, which this year is donating 10 million pounds of food to kick off the drive.

Last year’s drive netted 73 million pounds of food, of which 420,000 pounds were collected in Los Angeles.

Southland cities participating include Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Burbank, Camarillo, Canoga Park, Hawthorne, Pacific Palisades, Pasadena, Redondo Beach, Torrance and Van Nuys. Those wishing to donate may contact their local post offices to determine participation.
