A bullet possibly fired from the Harbor Freeway smashed a window and damaged the desk of an energy company president in Harbor City, but the building was empty at the time of the shooting, authorities said Wednesday.

The bullet penetrated the window at the new corporate offices of PowerCom Energy & Communications in the 24000 block of South Vermont Avenue, said company spokesman Dave Barron.

He said only a few employees have moved into the new offices, but within a few months it will be staffed 24 hours a day.

The shooting occurred between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, sheriff’s deputies said.

Company President Charles Haley discovered evidence of the shooting when he arrived at his office at 5 a.m. Barron said a motive for the shooting was unknown, and the company had not received any threats.
