Cox Does It All for Quartz Hill in 13 Innings

Jodie Cox hit a home run with one out in the top of the 13th inning Thursday to give Quartz Hill High a 2-1 victory over Highland in a Golden League softball game at Highland.

Cox, who struck out 13 and scattered eight hits, was thrown out at the plate in the eighth by Highland left fielder Michelle Wintermute. First baseman Melissa Rawson stopped Cox’s bid for an extra-base hit with a runner on second in the 10th.

Cox was three for six, while Olaya Salazar and Sara Moore each added two hits for Quartz Hill (18-2-1, 7-0 in league play), ranked No. 2 in the region by The Times.

Highland is 19-5, 5-2.
