Talk of Eisenreich Deal Starts Anew

Share

The Marlins and Dodgers have resumed trade talks about Jim Eisenreich.

Eisenreich, who plays the infield and outfield, would have been traded to the Dodgers during spring training, but the Marlins refused to pay part of his $1.4-million salary this season.

Typically a reserve, the left-handed Eisenreich was showcased by starting three games in the four-game series against the Dodgers. He is batting .273 (15 for 55) with one home run and six RBIs.

Shortstop Jose Vizcaino suffered a strained right knee ligament in the second inning Sunday when he collided with Gary Sheffield on a pickoff play at second base.

Vizcaino left the game in the eighth inning with swelling in his knee, and he will be examined today, team trainer Charlie Strasser said.

Right-hander Hideo Nomo is expected to make his next scheduled start on Thursday, Gregson said.

Nomo was forced to leave Saturday’s game because of a problem with an acrylic nail he wears on the middle finger of his throwing hand.
