Residents Group Hosts Alarcon-Katz Debate
Richard Alarcon and Richard Katz, candidates for the state Senate, will face off in a debate at tonight’s meeting of the Studio City Residents Assn.
The two are Democratic candidates in the June 2 election for the Senate’s 20th District seat, which is being vacated by Sen. Herschel Rosenthal.
Rosenthal cannot run because he has served the maximum terms allowed under state law.
“It’s important that our members have a chance to meet the candidates and hear what they have to say,” said Tony Lucente, association president.
“Not to mention it’s one of the most exciting races in the Valley.”
Alarcon, who served as a special Valley representative to former Mayor Tom Bradley, was elected in 1993 to the Los Angeles City Council, of which he is still a member.
Katz served in the state Assembly for 16 years, before being forced from office by state term limits.
Also on the meeting’s agenda will be discussion of the proposal for the Valley to secede from Los Angeles, the CBS parking structure and a farmers market debate.
The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Osaka Sangyo University, 3921 Laurel Canyon Blvd.
