DODGERS REPORT

Share

Paul Konerko, trying to demonstrate to the Dodgers that he deserves to be recalled from triple-A Albuquerque, pleaded his case with his bat Tuesday.

Playing at Vancouver against the Canadians in a Pacific Coast League game, Konerko went four for four with three home runs and five RBIs, scoring four runs in an 11-2 Albuquerque victory.

Since being sent down by the Dodgers on April 24, Konerko, the PCL’s most valuable player last season, has played in 16 games, hitting .375 with six home runs, 15 RBIs and eight runs scored.

But Konerko must still demonstrate he can perform at the major league level. Starting the season with high hopes, he hit only .197 in 18 games with the Dodgers. He only drove in two runs and failed to collect an extra-base hit.

* Update--Assured by the results of an MRI and a bone scan that there is nothing seriously wrong with his sore lower back, Park promises that he will again throw at full velocity on every pitch. Afraid that he might been hurting himself, Park took as much as 10 mph off some of his pitches in his last start, a 12-6 loss to the Florida Marlins.
