School Board Extends 2 Officials’ Contracts
Fullerton School District’s assistant superintendents, Linda Caillet and Patricia Godfrey, will be employed for another three years.
The school board Tuesday approved the two contract extensions on 4-1 votes, with Trustee Kim Ann Guth dissenting.
Caillet is in charge of the district’s educational services and Godfrey heads business services.
The women, who each earn $91,474 annually, were praised for their work by the majority of the school board.
Guth said she voted against the extensions because she was not provided with a copy of the contracts for review.
She also said she wanted instructional services to create a phonics-only approach to teaching children reading skills.
Trustee Hilda Sugarman defended the instructional program, saying: “Students need both phonics and whole language in the course of their elementary education in order to be fluent readers.”
