Housing Agency Sets Event on Affordable Apartments
The Community Corp. of Santa Monica will hold an open house this evening at its affordable housing project on 5th Street.
Apartments at the 32-unit building range in rent from $293 to $448 and are only available to families with very low incomes, said property management Director Mary Hennessy. For example, a family of four must have a yearly income of $20,500 or less to qualify, she said.
The private, nonprofit corporation has developed 700 apartment units in Santa Monica since 1982 using public grants and private moneys from tax credit programs.
The city’s high land values and rents have created a low-income housing shortage, said project manager Mike Strader.
The open house will be at 1144 5th St. from 5 to 7 p.m. Information: (310) 394-8487.
