A Baldwin Park man was arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of a woman who fell from a speeding car on a freeway in West Covina, authorities said.

West Covina police arrested Mark Hacker, 46, after a woman fell to her death from a car he was driving Sunday morning.

Katherine Hunter, 44, also of Baldwin Park, was pronounced dead at the scene, the westbound San Bernardino Freeway at the Citrus Avenue off-ramp, police said. The cause of death has yet to be determined, officials said.

West Covina police said Hacker was driving with Hunter in the front passenger seat. Police said they believe both had been drinking when Hunter either jumped or was pushed from the moving vehicle.

Hacker’s arrest came after he gave what detectives describe as “inconsistent statements” over the incident. Authorities said he was being held at the Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center’s jail ward.
