Community of Friends, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization, has won a $35,000 grant in recognition of its efforts in creating affordable housing for low-income people in their community, the Fannie Mae Foundation said Tuesday.

“Community of Friends has made an invaluable contribution to the revitalization of communities and neighborhoods in Los Angeles,” said James A. Johnson, chairman of the board of the Fannie Mae Foundation. “I am pleased to honor this organization for their work, which serves as a model for other community development efforts.”

The group, which is based in the Wilshire Center, has completed 345 units in 10 properties across Los Angeles County and has an additional 268 units in seven properties under development, most of them in South Los Angeles, according to Fannie Mae.
