The City Council, meeting as the West Hollywood Community Development Commission, has approved $500,000 to assist in the construction of two affordable housing projects, officials said.

With the latest allocation, approved at the commission’s Monday night meeting, $979,951 in city funds is earmarked for developing two 10-unit housing projects in the 1100 block of North Detroit, said Lester Burg of the city’s community development department.

The remainder of the financing for the more than $3 million project will probably come from federal HOME funds and tax credits to the developer, West Hollywood Community Housing Corp., Burg said.

The new housing units will be designated for senior citizens and low- and moderate-income residents. Construction could begin in 12 to 18 months, Burg said.
