Kennedy-Era Air Force One Is Retired

DAYTON, Ohio — The first jet-powered Air Force One, which carried President Kennedy’s body from Dallas and took President Nixon to China, made its final flight Wednesday.
The Boeing 707 took off from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, made four low passes over the grounds and then landed in the shadow of the museum where it will be displayed in retirement.
Spectators lined a fence around the base to watch the half-hour flight. “It’s kind of awesome seeing it coming in, knowing it’s the end of the road,” said Bob Duff.
The plane will go on display next month at the United States Air Force Museum in Dayton.
Visitors will be able to walk through the aircraft, and the museum wants to return the interior of the plane to the style it had during Kennedy’s term.
