A 31-year-old Simi Valley woman was arrested Thursday morning on suspicion of robbing a bank at gunpoint, police said.

Angie Wayner was arrested shortly after the 11 a.m. robbery of the Bank of America at 1307 Los Angeles Ave.

According to police, a woman entered the bank and robbed a male teller of the money in his cash drawer, then fled on foot toward the nearby Mountain Gate shopping center.

A United Parcel Service driver who was aware of the incident spotted Wayner in the center and called police.

Authorities arrived within a minute and took Wayner into custody without incident.

A large-caliber handgun was found in her possession, as well as a sizable sum of cash.

No injuries were reported.

“It was crazy,” said JoAnn Milne, who was using the automatic teller machine outside the bank during the incident. “I didn’t think anything was going on, then all these cops come hauling in here and run into the bank.”

The bank was closed for about an hour as police and the FBI conducted an investigation.

Neither Bank of America officials in San Francisco nor employees at the branch would comment on the incident, other than to say it was “rather unpleasant.”

Wayner was booked into Ventura County Jail and remained there late Thursday.

No bail has been set, and an arraignment will be scheduled today.
